What Gliding Is:
  • A thrilling and challenging aerial sport:
    • While not the most physically demanding sport available, gliding can be taxing to both mind and body, if you wish it to be.

  • A volunteer-based sport:
    • The club works due to every member pulling their weight and helping out on the field.

  • A lifelong hobby or a transferable skill:
    • You can glide for the sheer pleasure of it or you can use gliding as a solid basis for further flight training.

  • Weather Dependent!:
    • We are (un?)fortunately in a constant battle with the weather, it can provide thermals and sunshine and it can provide rain and fog!

  • Rewarding & Unconventional:
    • Gliding is a great talking point down the pub and is surprisingly accessible and fun!

What Gliding Is NOT:
  • Like driving lessons:
    • You do not pay to be taught to glide and then go home! Gliding involves more than flying: launching and retrieving gliders, towing cables, logging flights...all are part of the sport.
    • Instructors are not paid to teach you.

  • Without constraints:
    • Whilst gliding is very accessible there are some limits as with any sport: you must be generally fit and able to use/reach all controls and safety equipment on the glider. The only absolute constraint is weight and is due to the gliders physical balance constraints and is not imposed by EUGC! Very small/light people can fly with added ballast and a back rest. Very tall people (>~190cm/6'3") might struggle to be comfortable.
